ABOUT

Anna Herrera and Randall Manning

My husband and I have an event company called Florence Strings. We offer live music for weddings and events. Check out our website to listen to some samples, find our repertoire list and book us for your event!

I’m originally from Caracas, Venezuela. My husband and I opened a music and arts school in Appleton called Aurora Institute for the Arts. We currently offer Suzuki violin, viola and cello lessons. Go to our website here.

Here are some credentials

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from my Bachelor’s degree at Louisiana State University, where I also received my Master’s degree in Cello performance under the studio of Dennis Parker.

Other career development certifications I have include Suzuki Teacher Training and CelloBello’s CelloKids Teacher Training Seminar. I have also participated in summer festivals and seminars such as Domaine Forget, the National Summer Cello Institute and Feldenkrais for Musicians, and Eastern Music Festival as a String Orchestral Fellow.

I’m an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Suzuki Association of Wisconsin.

Other experiences

I am currently one of the cello coaches for the Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra. During my time in Baton Rouge I worked as a teaching artist at Kid’s Orchestra, had my own private studio and worked as staff member and cello teacher at Palacios House of Arts, with which I still collaborate with. Besides being a passionate teacher, I’m also an active musician. I performed with many ensembles in the Baton Rouge area such as Opéra Louisiane, Louisiana Sinfonietta and the New Orleans Opera. I was the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and a member of the cello section of the Baton Rouge Symphony. Back in my hometown, I would also perform with the Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra and the Caracas Municipal Orchestra.

What else about me?

My first language is Spanish. Besides teaching and playing I also enjoy cooking, watching lots of Netflix and creating embroidered art pieces. You can see some of my embroidery pieces here.

I started playing cello when I was 9 years old in the traditional method. I was part of El Sistema and played in a Youth Orchestra for many years. I also went to a couple of Conservatories in my city as a child/teenager. Looking back I can say that music has given me some of the best experiences, some of my best friends nowadays and some of the best memories.

Here is a picture of me and my sister playing together! She used to play viola. This was at a family party.
